RTV silicone conformal coating is a transparent fluid used as a protective coating for a wide range of electronic components and circuit boards. This product cures to a layer of protective film for resistance to corrosion, dust, moisture, electricity leakage, short circuit and salt mist. It is designed to extend the service life of electronics. Zhaoshun’s RTV silicone conformal coating is a silicone resin product, resistant to weather, high and low temperatures (-60 ℃~200℃), aging, and more. These properties broaden the applications of these RTV silicone conformal coatings.

Tips: Zhaoshun recommends using environmentally friendly silicone primers (non-toxic and low odor) to increase the viscosity of the conformal coatings if needed.

Usage directions
Previous preparations:
  • Circuit board cleaning: use a solvent to remove the dust and soldering residue from the circuit board surface for a better adhesion effect.
  • Localized protection treatment on parts that need no coating: apply an adhesive sticker film or anti-static adhesive tape for shading. The protected parts include the PCB plug, IC socket, trimming core, and others. Shading protection should be applied before cleaning to prevent the cleaner from entering these components.
  • Dry: after cleaning and shading processes, the circuit board should be dried before coating. Drying temperature and time are determined by the maximum allowable temperature of the circuit board.
Coating

General coating methods include spray, brush and dip coating.

1. Spray coating:
Spray coating is most applicable and easy-to-use method and is ideal for circuit boards with less components. Using this process, the conformal coating is required with a proper viscosity and leveling. This is helpful to the coating process and the process of flowing and dripping, allowing the hard-to-spray parts to be coated.

2. Dip coating
Dip coating exhibits the best coating effect, providing a uniform and continuous coating layer to any parts of the circuit boards. If there are components with poor sealing in the circuit board, a protective sealing is needed. A proper viscosity and coating speed is necessary to prevent the formation of air bubbles from affecting the coating effect.

3. Brush coating
Brush coating is the most applicable and is easy to use, ideal for small batch production applications. As a manual operation, brush coating requires very little equipment, but more operators.

Storage

RTV silicone conformal coating should be stored in cold and dry environments below 25℃ for a shelf life of 6 months. Products beyond the shelf life can only be used after confirmation of no abnormalities.

Notes:
  • There may exist cured sealants at the container nozzle during storage. Just remove it, as it will not influence product properties.
  • The products may also settle in the bottom of the container. Shake it thoroughly before using, and this also has no influence on product properties.
