Centrifugal Pump

Generally speaking, a centrifugal pump is composed of primarily six parts, including, impeller, pump body, pump shaft, bearing, sealing ring, and stuffing box.

1. Impeller
An impeller is a core part of a centrifugal pump. It functions to increase the pressure and flowrate of a fluid. A centrifugal impeller feature high rotational speed and high output force.
An impeller needs Static Equilibrium Experiment before it is installed into a pump. And it is usually designed with smooth inside and outside surfaces, thus reducing the flow friction loss.

2. Pump body
A pump body is also known as a pump casting. As a main part of a centrifugal pump, it functions to support and fix the whole assembly. A pump body is usually designed in connection with the bearing bracket.

3. Pump shaft
The pump shaft functions to transmit mechanical energy from the electric motor to the impeller.

4. Bearing
The bearing is a component mounted on pump shaft to support the shaft. Usually, rolling bearings and sliding bearings are both available.

5. Sealing ring
A Sealing ring attaches great importance to the flowrate and working efficiency of centrifugal pumps. A large gap between impeller inlet and the pump body will decrease flowrate and reduce pumping efficiency. A small gap will produce friction between impeller and pump body, which will also influence pumps' working efficiency. As a result, sealing rings needs to be properly assembled. Generally speaking, a gap ranges from 0.25mm to 1.10mm is appropriate.

6. Stuffing box
A stuffing box in a centrifugal pump functions to seal the gap between the pump body and the pump shaft, thus maintaining vacuum inside the pump. Commonly, we need to change the stuffs in stuffing box every 600 hours, to guarantee the normal operation of water pumps.
