Uses
The weight of a road roller is used to compress roadsurfaces. In the first process, two rows of pneumatic tyresare used to carry out initial compaction. The tyreflexibility and the vertical movement of the wheels enable the roller-compactorto run effectively on uneven ground. After this is done, a metal-drum roller isused to produce a smooth and even surface.
Some road rollers are also applicable for landfill compaction work. This kindof compactor is usually equipped with knobbed wheels because there is no needto produce a smooth and even surface. The knobbed wheels have a smaller areawhich is in contact to the ground, creating an effective compression effect.
