Pipe Nipple

A pipe nipple is a short piece of pipe with malethreads at both ends. As one of the most popular pipe fittings, the pipe nippleis widely used to connect two other pipe fittings.

Features
1. The length of a nipple depends largely on the length ofthe male threads. For some nipples, there may be a hex section in the centerfor the pipe wrench to grasp.
2. The close nipple is one of the most commonly used nipplesin the pipeline. Literally, a close nipple refers to a kind of nipple that hasno unthreaded area. When screwed tightly between two female fittings, verylittle surface of the close nipple remains exposed. Once screwed, the closenipple can hardly be unscrewed. Nevertheless, there are still two methods tosolve this problem. One way is to grip the threaded end with pipe wrench, whichwill cause damage to the threads and make the nipple replacement possible.While the other way is to use a special tool known as nipple wrench or internalpipe wrench, which will leave the threads undamaged by griping the inside ofthe pipe.
3. When the ends areof two different sizes, it is called a reducer or unequal nipple.
4. A barrel nipple ora pipe nipple is one which is usually made from pipe and is threaded only atboth ends.
5. Threads used onpipe nipples are mainly BSP, BSPT, NPT, NPSM and rarely Metric.
