Mode Conditioning Patch Cord

The Fibercanmode conditioning patch cord is designed to be used with LX/LH GBIC and other applications where both single mode and multimode interconnects must be maintained. When an unconditioned laser source designed for operation on single mode fiber cable directly coupled to an MMF cable, an effect known as differential mode delay (DMD) might occur. DMD can degrade the modal bandwidth of the fiber optic cable, which causes a decrease in the link span that can be reliably supported. The solution is to launch light from the laser at a precise offset from the center, which is accomplished by using the mode conditioning cables. The offsetpoint creates a launch that is similar to typical multimode LED launches.
