Fireproof coating, also known as fire retardant paint, is a special coating applied to the surface of combustible base materials. The fireproof paint serves to decrease the surface flammability of coated materials, with the purpose of retarding rapid fire spreading and improving fire endurance of the materials. The expansion type fire-retardant coating expands when heated, and produces carbonaceous foam, which forms thermal insulating layer on the objects protected. In this way, the fireproof paint is able to delay the heat transmission to the materials, thus preventing combustion of the objects and strength degradation due to temperature rise.

Classification
The fireproof coating generally falls into three categories, i.e. finishing fire retardant paint, flame retardant coating for wood, and fire-resistant coating for steel structure.

Application
Our fireproof paint is applicable to large roads, railways, tunnels, and exterior and interior steel structure in the petrochemical industry.

Anti-fire Mechanism
1. The fireproof coating has fire resistance or non-combustibility on its own. It acts to postpone flames and lower the burning rate by preventing direct contact between the base materials and air.
2. With low thermal conductivity, the fireproof paint can delay heat transfer from flames to the base materials.
3. The non-combustible inert gases generated from the fire resistant coating can thin the flammable gases from the protected objects when heated. Hence, the fire-retardant paint helps to prohibit combustion or decrease the burning velocity.
4. The radicals like NO, and NH3 derived from the heated nitrogen-containing flame retardant coating combine with organic free radicals to discontinue chain reaction, which results in lowered temperature.
5. The expansion type fireproof coating expands when heated, and produces carbonaceous foam, which forms thermal insulating layer on the objects protected. In this way, the fireproof paint is able to delay the heat transmission to the materials, thus preventing combustion of the objects and strength degradation due to temperature rise.

Precautions
1. Rigid surface treatment must be conducted before coating the fireproof paint on objects to be protected.
2. Fireproof coating can only be applied to steel structure under the following conditions. The surface temperature of the steel structure is 30 higher than the dew-point temperature, and the relative humidity is no more than 85%.
3. Keep the coating process from rain. Otherwise, protection measures should be taken.
