Thread compound is therecommended thread lubricant to reduce wear and the possibility of gallingduring the drilling operation. To reduce the friction betweenthe walls of the hole and the drill rod, apply rod grease to the surface of thedrill rods. Rod grease also reducesin-hole vibration, increasing tool and equipment service life.

Drill rods must be pre-torquedwith the minimum recommended make-up torque to preload the box and pin prior todrilling. Drilling torque alone will notmake-up the joint. The drilling operation torque should never exceed make-uptorque. Drill rods are sold by thebundle.
