Most of the stoppingforce is generated by the front brakes of a heavy vehicle so there is less heatgenerated in the rear, so drum brakes are often applied to therear wheels.
Although drum brakes are more frequently used for rear brake applications inall but the highest performance applications, disc brake system areincreasingly installed at the rear wheels by vehicle manufacturers due to thepopularity rise of disc brake after the introduction of front ventilated diskbrakes.
